The First Few Days
The first few days after surgery are when your body does the most intensive healing. It’s normal to feel sore, tight, and swollen during this time. You’ll be wearing a compression garment and may have small surgical drains to help reduce fluid buildup.
Most patients spend the first week resting at home with support from a family member or friend. We encourage walking short distances around the house to promote circulation and reduce the risk of complications.
Weeks One to Three
By the end of the first week, you should start to feel more like yourself. You’ll likely come in for a follow-up visit at our Lone Tree practice so your surgeon can check your progress and remove any drains if needed.
You can resume some light activities, but you still should not lift heavy objects or do anything strenuous. Take regular walks and listen to your body during this stage.
Ongoing Recovery and Results
You can expect to return to work and most regular activities within two to three weeks, depending on your job and how you’re feeling. Exercise and more physically demanding movements should wait until you’ve been cleared, usually around six weeks post-op.
While swelling can linger, your abdomen will continue to settle into its new shape over several months. The scars will gradually fade with proper care and time.
